New School Thinking (NeST)

conference

The NeST conference took place on Friday, 16th October. (Download NeST09 conference Report.pdf). The hope is that this conference can happen at least once every two years.

The focus for NeST09 was: Identifying innovative, rigorous and best practice in curiosity-led primary education.

Front-line teachers and Heads came together with academics & researchers and also parents of Primary School children to share their views and hear practical examples of the curiosity-led approach.

Don't worry if you couldn't be there.

Here's a 56 minute video of the keynote speech. It's a large file, so you might need to be a bit patient as it gets started.

Pretty much every book recommended by Prof Bill Lucas in this video is now available on our Bookshop page

Copies of all presentations given and brief reports on the discussions will also appear on this site very soon.

Excellent speech - Professor Bill Lucas has given me much to think about and confirmed my belief that curiousity and a disposition to learn are the most important qualities for human beings of all ages. We are a newly home educating family who defected from school to escape the strait jacket of the national curriculum and the endlessly repetitive computer generated printed sheets that children in the UK are subjected to on a daily basis. At present many schools in the UK seem to be offering the antidote to curiousity. Children become disaffected and disengaged from learning with extraordinary speed and efficiency. New School Thinking offers an opportunity for change that I hope will be grasped with both hands by educators and policy makers alike.
