New School Thinking (NeST)

About

What we believe

In a new Curriculum: Co-created by teachers & pupils in each classroom to follow their own curiosity.

In a new Communication: Where kids are listened to and teachers get to be themselves.

Who we are

New School Thinking was originally set up by the parents and teaching staff of Lewes New School in East Sussex.

The New School has been operating since 2000 and, since inception, has constantly worked to develop an educational approach that is not only curiosity-led, but also based on a person-centred model of Respectful Communication.

However, no one school (definitely including us) has all the answers, so a little while ago, we began to wonder how we could best make contact with all the other schools, organisations and individuals who have also been making the same journey. So, we decided to establish an annual conference and accompanying website – New School Thinking.

It is our aim to help create a focal point for all the great thinking and practical work that is going on around the UK to put children back at the heart of education (if they ever were there). We want to do what we can to help create the transformation in our education system that children so desperately need.

And because we’re a Primary School (and that’s where children get their first impression of education), it’s in Primary Education that we are initially focusing our efforts.
